One of the worst arias ever written,its a terrible sing. It never sounds good no matter who sings it.

While Renata was a bit past it with her singing, hers is actually one of the best acting interpretations of this aria. Puccini meant this as a comedy..and Scotto perfectly enacts the somewhat spoiled young beauty trying to wrap her father around her finger, to get the boy she wants to marry, against her father's better judgment. Look at the glances she throws at Dad to check the result of her wheeling and threats to throw herself into the Arno!
